This forum was set up originally to discuss issues (at our member's request) during the last US presidential election. However, I have been monitoring this for a while and it is getting a bit out of hand. MacMinute is not a political commentary site, and while we welcome open debate on issues, we are getting a bit off focus here. I sincerely don't want to close the board, but I will watch it for a few more weeks and make a decision. It is not the debate that is a problem, rather it is the extreme right or left views that cause me concern. We are a Mac site and healthy conversation is welcomed, but I am seeing more and more harsh, racist, and derogatory posts being made. That is not what we are here for and I will not support it.

I just wanted to be open with my readers and let you know. Please keep it in check and all will be well. However, if it continues as it has been going, I will shut it down.

Many thanks for your consideration,

Stan Flack
Publisher

Stan,
Will you please indicate which threads are a problem? It certainly seems that civility has returned to this forum since your Moderator cleaned house and there are many worthwhile discussions happening.

Seems to me like you're about three months late with your concern.

Admittedly, I haven't been around here as much in the past few months, but I don't know where it is you are talking about, Stan. The most right wing poster(s) were booted out unceremoniously recently. Of course, I could have missed some posts...

I can't help but wondering, and I could be wrong, that one of the posts you were thinking of is "proof that gay marriage is normal" a few threads down from here. It is not a negative nor derogatory post. Steve's point is that now we are starting to see a few people who formed same sex union's in the changing political climate starting to apply for divorce, which proves they are no different from heterosexual couples, so what was all the fuss about the issue in the first place? At least that is my reading of it. But maybe you weren't talking about that post and I am wasting keyboard time...

Ahem, anyway, what a sticky wicket up there in Congress, hey?

We are what we repeatedly do. -Aristotle

Ditto what gary just said! The zune you speak of was waist deep several months ago. But this place has been a regular charm school since September. IMHO, I'd be more concerned about the pharma and porn spam being visited upon the Local lately if I were you.

Please 'splain what posts/threads you're referring to. 10-Q.

i don't like that my full name is listed in this forum. google picked that up. now when my students search google for me, they find this forum. i don't mind what i've said here, but i also don't particularly enjoy my students knowing me this intimately.

--
"I am mindful that diversity is one of the strengths of the country" --president bush on 9/27/05
Edited by sean on 01/18/07 05:12 PM (server time).

That's a pretty egocentric reason sean. Pissing in Matt's general direction for doing what he did to you (and a few others, I believe) is one thing. But take down the whole board — one that most enjoy (which is why they're here daily) — is a bit over the top. And I'm sure there are google hits that link to your other above-the-line activities and accomplishments, too. Life in the Internet age, bubba. We're all exposed.
