Merry xmas, me - got us an airport extreme so now I can work in the living room by a wood fire! I just hope it's easy to set up, as I've never set up wireless before...

- padmavyuha

[color:purple]A lopsided man runs best along the little side-hills of success
- Frank Moore Colby

Just follow the step by step. It's really way easier than you'd think. But do make sure it's a password-enabled network. Otherwise, your neighbors will be gleefully hijacking your bandwidth.

Good for you. It's such a pleasure to be wireless

____________________________________________________
Bliss was it in that dawn to be alive,
But to be young was very heaven!

Hah, yes, that was ridiculously easy - though I don't get this WEP vs. WPA2 or whatever it was, how long your password has to be nonsense. Anyway, up and running, password-protected, gonna try it the other end of the house now...

- padmavyuha

*update* downloads topping out at around 190 Kb/s as compared to 245 Kb/s hardwired, but it's not as if I'm going to be spending my time in here downloading big files, is it?

[color:purple]A lopsided man runs best along the little side-hills of success
- Frank Moore Colby
Edited by padmavyuha on 12/21/06 01:02 PM (server time).

I'm down and uploading large files all the time — never an issue.

Last summer I added a 2nd base station (that was packed away) as a relay to improve the signal at the back of the house. So now I can sit out on my deck and work (except for when it rains or snows )

Also, turn off SSID (or whatever it's known as in the Airport interface) - this way, no one's even *tempted* to try and hack into your network as they won't know it's there...
