finally dropped into the apple store on the way home tonight and pick up a couple of toys.

Canon LiDE30 scanner. Neat scanner, it's very portable and gets the power from the USB port from the computer. Did something real high tech connected the scanner to the iBook and made a copy. Now the iBook was on battery power and it was powering the scanner so I could have been anywhere in the house including sitting on the crapper . And since it was wireless it printed to the Epson connected to the PowerMac.

For $99 it's pretty decent, scanned a couple of pics and I'm quite pleased. Might have to get a travel bag for it so I can take it with the iBook - I don't know why, but what the heck. Oh, it's Jag compatible.

Of course being the savy broadband internet user, I immediately tossed the CD that came with the box and downloaded the drivers off the net.

Second toy - Unibrain Fire-i webcam. This is really neat - it's powered by the firewire port and has a clip so you can attach it to the iMac flat panel or the iBook. With the iBook I have the ultimate portable webcasting system. I can carry it anywhere and webcast (well almost anywhere don't want to gross out others). Apple store price tag $129, but I've seen them cheaper in other stores.

came with software, but I haven't installed anything. works natively with Jag - no drivers required. Here is a quick snap from BTV pro

Anyways, first impressions both of these products look pretty good. I'll post a follow up in a week or so for those interested in knowing how good these products are.

Nice, the web cam looks like it's a pretty good quality camera.
