I was walking the two pooches this evening when suddenly this big ol' pit bull comes charging towards us. I didn't have my can of mace with me (I got it after the last time the dogs were attacked, when the cops told me the only thing I could do was carry some mace with me), so I faced down the beast. Or rather, I yelled down the beast. It works sometimes--although I don't wish it on anyone to try--that if you yell loud and long, a dog will get so confused that a human is acting that way that it'll turn tail and run.
So that's what happened. Now, I can tell you that if it had been a male dog out for blood the yelling would have done no good, but I got a good look at the beast and I could see that it was a female which had recently had a litter cause she was gravid with milk. She actually looked like a nice dog (as much as pit bulls can, which IMHO is not that much), but I was not about to take a chance.

I have no idea where she came from, but I'll be taking the mace with me for a few days.

____________________________________________________
Bliss was it in that dawn to be alive,
But to be young was very heaven!

My mom was walking their dog Saturday when a beagle came up to them and started barking and jumping up on my mom (she was holding their dog...a yorkie). My mom was turning trying to protect their dog and herself but the dog ended up biting my mom on the arm. She was wearing a jacket, but it still broke the skin. A couple helped my mom by getting the dog off of her.

Good thing I wasn't there or that beagle would have been dead had I seen what it did.

One of my favorite comments from "Royal Canadian Air Farce":

"Did you ever notice that people who own pit bulls look like they shouldn't be allowed to breed either?"

[color:red]Bibo, ergo sum

Over the 20 plus years of jogging, I never had to spay a dog but sure have come close. I carry pepper spray with me.

Just last year, I got bit, or more nipped, by one of those tiny rat dogs. The owners just sat on their porch and watched. I really wish I would have either sprayed it or at least knocked it away but I did not want to hurt it. I told the owners I was bit and bleeding (it did not break the skin) so I hopping they waited for a lawsuit or least animal control.

_______
I know what you mean aboutnot wanting to hurt the dog. I'll telll you though, the two times that my larger dog has been attacked, I did not worry at all about hurting the other dog. In one case I kicked the bejeezus out of the attacker.

____________________________________________________
Bliss was it in that dawn to be alive,
But to be young was very heaven!

Normally I wouldn't want to hurt a dog, and I wouldn't actually hurt the one that attacked my mom, but I would give it something to remember!
