I just called MacMall to check the status of my Office v.X order, and it turns out Microsoft isn't promising delivery (at least to MacMall) until the 24th. Did I miss this news release, or am I reporting it?

If anyone actually finds out their order is getting shipped sooner than the 24th, I'd love to find out from where so I can switch my order.

I talked to CDW, Microsoft's largest retailer, and they said they had a shipment coming in on the 21st, but they already had 78 backorders for a shipment of only 81 copies, so I'd look elsewhere. I also talked to Apple, and they said they were already shipping some copies to people, but it was people who placed their orders weeks ago. I placed mine mid October, so I'll let you know when they get to me.

In case anyone was interested, I have found out that CompUSA seems to have a few copies in the stores here in San Diego, so I would assume that would translate the same around the country. However, they are charging $499 (plus sales tax) so I guess it all depends on how much you are willing to pay for quicker use of the software.

I have also found out that MacMall may or may not receive a shipment of Office today, not the 24th, but the sales rep couldn't promise anything.

Just to follow up, MacMall has informed me that my copy of Office v.X was shipped Friday afternoon from their warehouses, and that they received at least a couple of hundred copies of the software.

Hey Sean--I got the same emails from Apple, and I too bought the academic package: but the nice UPS guy brought me the box with Office for X last night. So don't give up hope!

And that's true too.--Shakespeare, King Lear
