yeah, i had old kent (i live in kent county, fwiw) and it was bought by fifth-third. 53 now has their backup headquarters here in grand rapids. it's a huge complex of many buildings. they do everything the corporate office elsewhere does except that they aren't doing anything for real. i think it'd be kind of weird working in a corporate office that is meaningless unless of an extreme emergency. <br><br>at my class reunion, i learned an old friend is a personal banker for 53 in columbus. i then learned that personal bankers only work with clients who have a lot of money. i will never have a personal banker. <br><br>i shifted my account to <a href="https://www.usaa.com/inet/ent_references/CpStaticPages?PAGEID=cp_web_billpay_about_pub">USAA banking</a> (i think you have to be affiliated with the military to qualify to use it). they give me 10 free ATM transactions a month where they don't charge me and they'll pay the other banks ATM fees. of course, they are an internet bank so they don't have any ATMs of their own, but still . . .<br><br>--<br>"I am mindful that diversity is one of the strengths of the country" --president bush on 9/27/05
