Let's hope this has a direct effect on slowing down the insurgency.

NYT story

Expectations are relatively low on that score, since so much of the violence for the past several months has been sectarian. Just the same, glad he's been *cough* retired.

Unfortunately I suspect it will actually intensify things in the immediate future before it has a tapering effect.

But good job to those who finally got him!

i agree. while he was alive, the trend towards civil war was largely subverted by pointing out that al zarqawi was at the root of much of the violence being generated by sunnis -- zarqawi was an "external" source to blame. now the sunnis will bear more of the brunt of the retaliation for their insurgency.

--
"I am mindful that diversity is one of the strengths of the country" --president bush on 9/27/05

Actually, Zarqawi has been dead for months. Bush pulled him out of the Oval Office freezer, flew to Iraq on NeoCon 1 and placed Zarqawi in the rubble to hypnotically distract everyone from the sagging poll numbers. It's all part of the plan.

***********************
[color:red]Nice Try
