Sure they do - there's all those jobs that americans don't want to do that need underpaid foreign labour to fill.

As for the ports, we probably not looking at an influx of UAE citizens, unless the H1 visa program is expanded to import them. So it's either the current dock workers who keep their jobs, or the jobs become "jobs that americans won't do"

- This is gonna get pretty interesting.
- Define "interesting".
- Oh, God, oh, God, we're all gonna die..

Americans won't do them because they can't send the money back home where they can live on a few 100 US dollars a month. When rent starts at $800/month no you can't work for minimum wage (not to mention paying your fair share of taxes. Being a citizen and all). Let all the "temporary guest workers" come here and work for minimum or more likely less and then go back to their country. Wages in this country have essentially stagnated since the early 90s. Has the cost of anything is this country? Not a problem you can fix overnight. Keep wages low while housing and cost of living goes through the roof and your headed for disaster.

-Foxsports.com, My SB XL hi-lites

Actually I heard a nice summing up of the whole "guest worker" deal. It's a propaganda misinformation from the corporate body

- it's not that americans don't want to do the work, it's that US corporations don't want to pay american workers to do the work.

As an aside I know a lot of "guest workers", and they had to jump through hoops to get their H1 visas to work here, most are on their second issue, so in a few years time will be returning to their home nations..... no offer of a green card from anyone to allow them to stay here.

- This is gonna get pretty interesting.
- Define "interesting".
- Oh, God, oh, God, we're all gonna die..

my guess is that bush wants this because karen hughes has told him that our image in the middle east is at an all-time low. he thinks this fight will put his administration in a favorable light. never mind the fact that iraq war, Abu Ghraib, Gitmo, and just about every US foreign policy connected to the middle east has facilitated a hatred that will not be overcome in our generation.

--
"I am mindful that diversity is one of the strengths of the country" --president bush on 9/27/05
