The kind of tactics she and Bush are suggesting are the same soft, half-assed solutions neo-cons were looking down their noses at before the Iraq invasion. Sheesh. I guess they learned their lesson.

We are what we repeatedly do. -Aristotle

Yah. Like every middle-eastern or Muslim nation wants us mucking around in their lives right now. And salt in the wound, new tapes of abuse at Abu Ghraib were broadcast today on Australian TV (cue jack).

But Condi, you go, girl. You load up that wheel barrow and dump a pile of democracy on Iran's front stoop.

I don't like Secretary Rice's policy positions or any of the people she works for, but man... I would not want her job. Think about all of the things you have to say to pretty hostile countries with that huge albatross of the Bush Administration slung around your neck. People want to love her because they want to love Americans. They just hate our leadership and it looks to be a growing consensus that we do as well.

-- Charlie Alpha Roger Yankee Whiskey
I don't know whether or not Rice is in the same position Powell found himself in: having been taken in and hung out to dry. I sure as hell wouldn't want her job either. But she's stayed and taken on the new job, and now has to represent the U.S. on a very steep and slippery slope. The problem, though, is contrary to what you say, I'm not so sure if people are still willing or able to separate the U.S. as a people from the U.S. as a run-away, ego-centric administration.
