I've already gotten something like a dozen infected emails today, all of them supposedly from my school's IT office warning me about my computer being infected and asking me to open a zipped file to fix the problem. God I hate this crap!

. . . . . Here's lookin' at [color:red]you kid.

I know yours are fake, but I have all the IT emails flagged as spam and they go straight to the trash.

Seriously though, all those messages (seems like one a week) are about some sort of vulnerability or spam or some crap that affects the Windows users. I haven't read an IT email in a couple years.

This past Monday late in the night the IS department does a restart of all routers/switches and they make a "typo" which wipes out all web access to my subnet. It takes four hours of phone calls for them to figure out that they are at fault.

Not a thread jack: I tell them to warn me when they do this sort of thing and they get all pissy, "we do send out an email notice several times before each outage". I took a while to dig back but sure enough there they are. They are identified as spam by their e-mail filters (not mine which I use on top of theirs.)

They are going to send me a letter next time (one made out of paper). I asked them if they had ever heard of a fax machine. (I can get pissy too.)

(__*__) <-- circular sig when standing

In reply to:

fax machine

There is no greater example of the failure of a paper-based society to advance than that of a fax machine. Yet, for some strange reason, many businesses are addicted to faxing.

The last IT email I got read

"All those with the old white Dell boxes are about to get new Dell black boxes. We will be around next week with spray paint"

I guess some sort of Geek humor.

The only time I ever use my fax anymore is when some idiot (usually inside my institute) has to have my signature. I feel like some departments have just moved up from stone tablets and want to try out the new technology of facsimile transmission by analog signal over POTS. (This is obvious when the request the signature in black ink only.)

(__*__) <-- circular sig when standing
