Oh no..it looks like N.O. is going to catch a part of Hurricane Rita!

Trey, hope you are safe too!

And Sherman...being a judge and all, I hope that he can leave like the others, but who knows! Stay safe Sherm!

Actually, Waleed heard from Sherman and Sherman is listed as "essential", so he has to stay. From what I remember, Sherman has to help keep the jails cleared by judging lesser cases or something like that. Basically to help make sure the police are free to patrol instead of tying them up in courthouse. I'm sure I'm wrong, and hopefully Sherman can clear this up. I'm awaiting his response to my email.

I'm "essential" with a disaster pass even if martial law is declared but I would be so out of here if I thought Boston Harbor would be coming down Beacon Street.

But for us it is snow storms and they're fun now that I have all terrain tires and 4WD with locking differential.

Mine have better looking rims.

Loc: The Wizard's Balcony
We're safe so far. The wind is really picking up outside and the rain is coming down at about a 45º angle. I think that we're going to have a worse time of it for Rita than we had for Katrina... here in Baton Rouge anyway.

I'm really worried about my grandmother's house, as she still hasn't gotten her roof fixed since Katrina. I'm afraid she'll get quite a lot of water inside. And I know she's worried too.

Man, a really big band just passed over us. it's calmed down for now.

Hey all,
I can't leave and won't. There are essential law enforcement duties that must be tended to.
As it is turning out, the authorities have done a masterful job of getting people out of harms way. Over a million have left the area and the rest of us (4million plus) are hunkered down. I used to hate that word, "hunkered, " but now I think it is perfect.
We are sealed up here at home, the streets are empty and ALL emergency services are poised to go into action.
The only thing left is some prayers. I know the entire Country is concerned for our safety and the potential economic impact. Have faith, we are a hardy lot.
Thanks again. As frightened as we are, we take comfort in the thoughts and prayers of good folks like here at MM.
Now, 'skuse me. I have to hunker down.
Sherman.

Sherm, thanks for responding. I'll be thinking about you and all the others hunkered down. GOOD LUCK!!!!!!

PS: After this is all over PLEASE get back to us as soon as you can to let us know you're ok.

Thanks, Marg
I have been through a few all the way back to Carla in '61. You never get used to the noise. Sort of like using a vacuum cleaner as a pillow.
We have a closet big enough for the missus, our dogs and me. Other than that, the house is surrounded by 100 year old oaks and, hopefully they will break some of the wind.
I can't say enough good things about the efforts that all the authorities are going through to prepare for this mess. Yes, there will be damage, but the medical, police, fire and other emergency services are ready.
Hopefully, my "post Rita" message will be one to give all of us in the area a sigh of relief. A minimal loss of life would just great. There will be property damage, After all, it's just "stuff" isn't it? (On the other hand, I HAVE secured some of my stuff.)
Now, it's time for me to mix a margaRITA and light up a cigar.
COME ON, YOU BASTAGE......SHOW ME WHAT YOU GOT!
