I just want to clear up a few things here. I have not gone stomping out and left MM in a childish hissy fit. I still come and read a couple of times a day. I simply have ceased posting. I have nothing to say.

This whole mp3 thing was the last straw for me I guess. It was just one of a series of events here. The sour taste began with the censorship of the nude pic of the old woman. As was pointed out by snag at MC, not all of us here are Americans. We, from other countries tend to forget how oppressed you poor folks are and how few freedoms you have. This is an American site so of course American rules are in place. That doesn't mean I have to like it but I must abide by it.

My next issue was with the weekend that was spent bashing another forum. To me that showed the poorest taste and lack of class imaginable. Again, my personal opinion.

Finally, the issue at hand. This whole thing with the mp3's was the last straw. If this edict had come straight from Stan 2 weeks ago I would have understood. Then to have Akula lurking here then decide to stir up sh!t at MC (and that was his intent) was just too much. Gizmo, you have lost many friends and lost respect from many for that whole fiasco. If you had felt as strongly about the forums saftey as you claim then it should have been handled with Stan and Jim behind the scenes and have THEM post a ban on embedding mp3's.

All these events have made me less than happy. I came here to have fun. The fun, for me, has gone.

Well...sorry you had to leave Marg.

For someone with nothing to say, you sure got your slam in on MacGizmo. Funny thing is..he didn't start it! I mentioned it first. So it is me you should be directing your anger at, not him. He just picked up the ball and ran with it from me. I didn't mind what he said one bit, in fact I agreed whole-heartedly with him. He hasn't lost any respect in my mind.

Again, sorry to hear that 3 things made you stop posting here.

Nude pics....old or young, I guess it doesn't matter and like you said, it's not yours or mine so we have to respect the rules of the board. You did agree to them when you signed up.

Trashing of other forums...That was done by some members, not all. Just skip right past those threads, like I did with the politics one. You didn't see me leave when Mike posted what he did, did you? nope. Personally I think it was venting, but perhaps they should have done it in PM. Anyway, history, who cares.

MP3's....see Nude Pics...and this one has been settled too. Don't like it? Sorry..move on.

If you have nothing to say, then why lurk? I do hope you rejoin us at some later time as I don't think anyone here has ill-will towards you. We are like a family......squabble here and there, talk trash about cousin Jimmy..and when Daddy Stan comes in and enforces some rules, accept them!

Ever hear this saying.."Don't shoot the messenger"? Apply that towards Gizmo. he doesn't deserve the harsh treatment...he treated everyone respectfully and he got tired of it constantly being brought up...and I did to.

I have nothing to say.

In other words, you stomped off in a childish hissy fit after posting childish hissy-fit comments about the MP3 issue over here, but you have doubts about what you said or did, so you are going to lurk here and see how it all pans out, and blame us for your words and actions.

I'm sorry you got so easily offended by not being able to look at nude men/women - but it does make perfect sense as it is generally frowned upon throughout the US. However, take note that MacMinute is owned and run by Stan - who lives in Canada, not the U.S. I wouldn't call it oppression, it's really a matter of common decency due to the fact that this is a public forum where anyone including children can view.

As far as people slamming MC... I have looked back at the threads to mid October and still haven't found any threads where people were bashing MacCentral. To my knowledge nearly everyone but maybe 3 people post over there as well as here... now if we want to talk about forum bashing... If I didn't haven anything better to do, I could point to SEVERAL threads over at MC where people were bashing us over here (by us, I mean me, you, and everyone else who decided to come over here a while back). So where does the "Classless" line fall... you're willing to overlook it there but not here? Why is that, since it's the same people in both places?

Yes, the thread began here. It was a simple and valid point that was raised. YOU chose to put the "that's just plain stupid" spin on it, and YOU chose to get so upset about it that you decided not to post anymore. Now maybe Akula got the idea here, but it really doesn't take away from the fact that it was a valid question to discuss.

I know Akula likes to cause a scene, but how is this "stirring up sh!t:"

Akula's original post at MC:

In reply to:

"For those posting MP3s, I've got two issues to raise.

First off, posting inline MP3s == bad. Remember folks, dial-up, no matter how horrible it is, is the most common form of accessing the Internet today. Also please remember that users in other countries besides the US may be paying per-minute dial-up charges for phone lines. Can't we link instead? The other benefit of linking, is, of course, an easy way to control-click -> Save As. To my own situation, I only use dial-up to dial into routers now-a-days...I personally have access to two 1.5Mbit lines and one 3Mbit line (at work).

Secondly, many of the MP3s I've seen posted are in fact, copyrighted (that is to say, copyrighted by a major publisher). I doubt that any of you have gotten permission from the publisher to post an MP3, correct? Do you realise that a body such as the RIAA could come down on Jim & Co and shut this board down? No matter if you like or don't like the RIAA (hey, I wish they'd die as well), they still have legal power and a right to keep their works as they see fit."

I didn't start these discussions, I certainly didn't escalate these discussions, I simply tried to offer some common sense and reason into them. When you say I've lost MANY friends and MUCH respect... I wonder why you *think* that. First off, because you don't know other than You and Alec whom I consider a friend... If Alec had something to say to me regarding this situation, I would hope that he would PM or e-mail me about... and he hasn't. So I can only assume that while he may not agree with me, he respects my position on this matter - which is simply this, "It sucks, but it's the law."

If you choose not to be my friend and not have respect for me, well... so be it. I can't change your mind, nor will I try. Obviously my friendship didn't mean anything to you to begin with because you chose to throw it away without so much as a peep about it to me! It saddens me to say that.

And just for the record, I DID ask JimD to post his policy on that issue over at MC as soon as it got started... it just took him a while. I didn't ask Stan to do it, because many of us were in the chat with him when it came up, and I think someone else asked him to clarify his thoughts for us here in the forum anyway, which he did.

[color:red] Kiss My Banana!
Visit me here!

Who are these friends he lost, by the way?

I'm sure they weren't all that great of friends if they're going to just toss it all away over some silly message board rule thing.

I never saw the big deal anyway... Until JD or Stan got an actual warning from the RIAA or someone like that, I don't see why we should have stopped just doing what we were doing.

I stand by my opinion that I don't think people post music clips here with the intention of sharing them. Granted, they ARE shared, but this ain't no Limewire people.

[color:red]Hold on...it's time for a
Oh gee, I can't beleive all of this...this place is not "All about me" it is "All about us!" We have to respect the wishes of Stan, he respects what we have to say. I concure with you DaddyMac "I'm sure they weren't all that great of friends if they're going to just toss it all away over some silly message board rule thing." As with my sig...TO EASY.

Too Easy!

I'm glad you haven't left completely and still check in. The MacBabes need you!!!!

Being a newbie at MM, and being away from MC for awhile, I missed all of the events and really didn't know what was going on until recently.

I know this isn't about me, me, me but being new to MM, I couldn't understand where some of the members went. When I joined MC, Steve G left. Then when I joined MM, Steve G. left again! Hey, I'm starting to get a complex! (Just Kidding). Just bad timing!! Hagen filled me in on everything and I went back and read some of the threads.

The reason I came to MM, was for an escape and for fun also. I do enough serious stuff and debating in my offline life, that I don't get into it much online. I do hope it gets back to the way it was. At the same time, I do like the debates and other topics at MC.

Both forums are great and lot's of wonderful and intelligent people. Who else could I share these crazy movies with??!!

Anyway, I hope things will mend. I dislike the childish insulting going back and forth in threads, but that will probably always exist every now and again. I just walk away from that and read other things.

I agree that things should have been handled differently, the whole MP3 thing could have been approached better, as you said.

Akula, yes, I agree, his main goal with every post is to stir up sh!t. He attacks me now, whenever he gets the opportunity to. But in my eyes, he is just a child and will someday grow up, so it doesn't actually bother me that much.

Hopefully we can put the fun back into it all. Thank you for posting, it was well said and good to know how you feel and why you feel that way. I was wondering about you and was going to PM you.

Ginny
