Wow, I can see ya'll were busy over the weekend.

I have been reading the thread on the posting of MP3s on MacMinute. I did mention in one of the iChats that I prefer files like that not be posted. The laws surrounding these matters as to who is responsible for posting copyrighted material is hazy at best. Until a more definitive calling as to liability is made, I would as that you not post MP3s. I read that some of you consider this censorship - I am sorry you feel that way. The simple fact is that it is protecting our Web site from legal action. To me, whether or not you can post MP3s is not that big of a deal. That is not what this forum is for.

I should add as well that this applies to more than just MP3s -- software, movies and the like bring up the same issues.

Cheers,

Stan

I understand your position Stan and I accept that. In the future it would be very appreciated, by myself and a few others, that it be you who makes such statements, upfront and not in some chatty meeting.

cheers!

Errr...I think I missed the link there...what stuff? Marg was commenting on Stan's iChat based edict, as opposed to posting in the forum, I think, meaning some of us aren't using iChat or Aim etc. Maybe. I guess.

Hey, can that 'stuff' be posted to the Antipodes?

Understood. But you have to realize that it really wasn't an "issue" that came up before this. I was asked my opinion on posting MP3s during an iChat with some readers and I gave my comments. To be honest, I hadn't noticed any files posted previous to this latest one.

Cheers,

Stan

Thanks for posting this Stan.

Apparently I opened up a can of worms for some when I mentioned it. Didn't think that some would take it so hard! Oh well. Thanks!

I'll comply - I understand the legal ramifications for MM - and I also agree with Marg's comments - if it's something important like this please let us know directly!

Leslie

[color:blue]Music is the wine that fills the cup of silence.
Robert Fripp

It should be made clear to you (and others) that the iChat discussion was almost two weeks ago, and the topic of MP3's came up out of nowhere, there was no "purpose" for bringing it up other than idle conversation, it's pure coincidencec that this issue is in front of us now. I certainly hope nobody felt "left out" of some secret rule-making committee or anything like that, it was just a very brief topic of discussion in a very long iChat session in which we were probably talking about Football, trips to Spain, and a way to get even with the MacBabes for that "IT" video!

[color:red] Kiss My Banana!
Visit me here!
