i still have the convertible, but i've slowly learned that i need function over form. the vw has no space. i like to play golf and my clubs won't fit in the trunk and they don't fit in the backseat either (unless i take my driver and woods out). my dog is not allowed in the vw because of the leather seats. it's just too small and it's just too nice for my tastes -- i am scared to get it dirty. i am going to be selling it unless i can get a reasonable trade-in.

i have cooled on the old volvo because i've slowly remembered some of the pains i had with an old jaguar while i was in college. old parts are expensive and take time to locate and there's just always something. i ended up having it in the shop about 1/4 of the time i owned it. nightmare that i don't want to revisit. now, i am warming up to the idea of a new car, but on the real cheap. for example, this vehicle can be had for under $15,000 and it gets over 30 miles per gallon even in the city:

anyone have any thoughts on the scion xB? it's made by toyota, so that's a plus. i think it's pretty ugly myself, but it's function over form. actually, i think it's quite ugly to the point that i almost like it.

--
Straw-man rhetorical techniques are the practice of refuting weaker arguments than one's opponents offer. 2 "set up a straw man" or "set up a straw-man argument" is 2 create a position easily refuted, then attribute that position to your opponent.
Ohh okay

Yeah the Scion is frigging buttt ugly, Butt buckets are here driving around. I don't know anyone that owns one so I cannot give a review - I guess that being seen driving one would not ruin your PHd image that the public has - I say go for it. LOL

Why not old domestic cars - like you could get 2 Geos for under 1,000

After having a 40 year old motorcycle and a 20 plus year old truck, I am very thankful I can do all of the repairs, minus machine shop items. I would plan on doing most of the work, at least all of the small items, or you will probably be unhappy due to the repair costs.

This weekend, I am having to pull the cam cover off my motorcycle to replace a seal and am sand blasting the truck's bed to fix some rust.
