I agree with New...

example- Ollie North committed treason and participated in obstruction of justice in the Iran Contra scandal... he got off on a technicality... so he can still vote, but someone who did a lessor crime cannot- that is NOT justice...

another example- does Martha Stewart lose her right to vote?
if so, I think that's terrible ! I'm no Martha fan, but she didn't do anything hundreds before her didn't (and are still doing) and even though she was guilty... "sell a few stocks on inside information and you lose the right to vote"?? seems extreme to me! ....she paid in time and a fine! damn -MOVE on !!

maybe in a "perfect world" permanently losing your right to vote for a felony might be justifiable, but we know American justice is far from perfect. Those with power, money, and connections often get off ... those who don't have them get the full measure of the law. Martha was definitely a big exception... look at OJ !

I still have NO problem with a felon who's "paid his/her Dues" getting his full rights back. What is wrong with that ?- NO ONE has presented a single reason it would be harmful to our democracy !
If you have one, present it !

A new question: DO people that receive a "Presidential Pardon" get to vote?? just curious.

David (OFI)
hey and don't forget the price of gas is going up again !!

yep grand days of the Dubya years.

and saying the deficits are going down is like saying "wow, look the aft of the Titanic is rising out of the water!!"

one interesting thing I've watched this year is the DOW hasn't done cr@p... beginning of year it was slightly > 10,000.. today closed at 10,200 woooooo ! it's gone up to around 10,400-500 a couple of times only to fall back about where it started...

ah but things are really grand if you have "red glasses" on.

David (OFI)
Actually, I believe that most states already have a mechanism in place to allow felons to vote after they have paid their debt to society. In New York State as long as a felon has served their sentence, completed any parole and/or probation, and paid any fine that was levied inre. to the felony. Than they can vote again. Assuming that most felons have voted in the first place.
