Well, with O'Connor throwing in the towel (she was one of the ones on the fence,) it would seem Bush is all but assured of at least 2 nominees for the court, and probably 3:

1.) O'Connor, who retired today.

2.) Rehnquist, due to ailing health. By the way, I hope he recovers and stays 10 more years, that just doesn't look probable.

3.) John Paul Stevens, who is 85...can't be far behind.

The assimilation of the Bush Supreme Court has begun!

Besides overturning Roe v Wade and making George Bush Supreme Ruler of Space & Time, what decisions in particular are you looking forward to? Federal laws against gay rights?

Is an unbalanced court really good for the country, no moderates, just an ultra conservative majority?

Nixon & Reagan's conservative picks turned out to be moderates, yes?

It was NEVER intended by our framers for the supreme court to be so important. It got politicized with Roosevelt to push through the new Deal and he of course not only increased the size of the court but packed it with his "people" also. I guess this was back when the Dems ruled the world. Now of course God forbid we have a true two party system and the unlike the Brits who VOTED to approve abortion, we have moden liberals who have circumvented popular vote through the courts, putting both the courts and lawyers in a more prominent postiion in this country than should be.
One nation under litigation. Oh and Ruth Buzzi Ginsberg was an ACLU lawyer and a die hard liberal- the Repubs gave Clinton what he wanted with few hurdles. The parnoid lefties are already lining up to "disapprove" Bushs nominee BEFORE HE EVEN HAS ONE! If I were one of them I would do the same- it is their lifeline.
