His wife, who sobbed when the pictures were distributed, said the attackers "beat him up with their feet first, because he has shoe marks on his face, and then used their fists." Rothstein said the assailants didn't take Hook's wallet, other personal belongings or his car. In the absence of any other motive, it appears the beating was related to his whistle-blowing, Rothstein contended."It is clear to us that this was a message," Susan Hook said.
She said her husband had been told last week by a friend about someone who had information about the lab. A planned meeting with that informant on Friday never materialized, and Hook believed that's who he was going to meet on Saturday, she said.
Susan Hook, who was in Albuquerque visiting their grown sons when the incident happened, said her husband did not frequent bars and she believed his account of the attack. The assailants did not specifically mention the lab, she also said.
Lab spokesman Kevin Roark said the beating of Hook -- who works in the Prime Contract Office, an internal oversight group -- was "a senseless and brutal act and should not be tolerated." The university and the lab are "outraged" about the assault, according to a statement released by the lab. Hook and another whistle-blower, Chuck Montano, sued the university in March, alleging that after they uncovered management failures, university and lab managers tried to make their jobs miserable so they would quit.
Hook had been voicing complaints about lab management for years. The story should be the crimes alleged between the lab and the energy dept.

The rest of the story sounds dubious. He might have been beaten by Government thugs, in fact it seems most likely. But how could this guy go to a strip club to meet someone yatta yatta... I'm on your side with the story about crimes committed by the energy dept., but it just seems like this guy , knowing he is a target, goes to meet some unknown person late at night and gets beaten. It's not that he got beaten in his driveway or in his office parking lot, but leaving a strip club. It's just as likely he needed to get some drinks & a topless dancer fix and got beaten up in the process... makes him look more the martyr going in to testify, and I'm glad he's still able testify.
