I absolutely hate BellSouth. I haven't had them for years since I dropped them and went solely with my cellphone. Now, having a kid, a home phone is a necessity. Vonage fills the bill just fine. We don't get hardly any spam calls. Last night was the 1st and I hung up as soon as they started their spiel. That's my blocker.

I'm actually really confrontational with telemarketers (of which I get very few, because I'm on the 'Do Not Call List.) As soon as they start talking, I ask them to place me on their 'Do Not Call List,' and by law they have to do so and end the call. Works every time!

But I do still have to maintain a copper telephone line...for two reasons. 1.) If the power goes out, I still need to be able to use dialup Internet for work and 2.) 911 service (especially if the power goes out.) However, in these parts, we have deregulation...so the monopoly phone company SBC doesn't have my business. I get telephone service from someone else.

I'm actually considering Vonage as a second line.
