There were a few additions to the 1972 movie that weren't in the book (golden geese, Slugworth) that I'm sure people will go apepoop about because they're not in this one. I remember the illustrations in the book made Wonka and the Oompa Loompas look almost creepy. Wonka was a madman. Wilder was too cutesy, but did a great job nonetheless. Then again, the 1972 version was made in conjunction with the promotion of a Willy Wonka candy bar, hence the switch from "Charlie" in the title. Guess it had to be more kiddie-friendly.
