Given the deaths of 9 people up in Cleveland, perhaps it's a good time to push the test button on your smoke detector to see if it works.

If you don't have one, or if your battery is dead...time for a quick trip to the 24-hour store to pick one up.

There are 6 smoke detecors hardwired into my house wiring, and if one goes off, they all go off.

They're too bloody sensitive.

Casserole bubbles over in the oven? They go off.

It can be annoying.

My apartment in Brooklyn was like that. I had to put a table fan next to the oven to blow the heat/smoke out the kitchen window. Damn thing still went off half the time. Couldn't have a fever without it screaming!

LOL - we wire ours all together in every house.

Somethings you should know about SDs.

Check SD placement, example if the SDs are to close to a open window or air conditioner they will go off, likewise to close to the kitchen will set them off. Also vacuum the sensor port, if dust gets in there it will think its a fire. Once in a while take the SD apart to check for ants, seems they are attracted to the low cycle hum of electricity.

If you think that your SD is to sensitive, simply change to another brand.

True story
Friend of mine was sanding drywall in a 20 story high rise. He turned on the shop vac to clean up the drywall powder and off went the SDs. The entire building was evacuated LOL = he got a ton of shiit for that one.
