ALOL@Alec!

I can't hit the remote fast enough when I see Nancy Grace pop onto my TV.

She is a bitter woman and really not all that freakin' smart considering her education.

In reply to:

it's a top story because the media decided it was.

Absolutely.
The stories that get top billing are because of the news media.
Wilbanks is not the only run away bride-to-be.
How about the Terri Schiavo story? It's not all that unusual. Hundreds of right to die decisions are being made daily. Most families work through it. But the media got ahold of it and then the conservatives and bam! it takes off.
There are over 55 murders per day in the US. The media will decide which ones make the headlines.

From what I understand
- she did a Martha Stewart to officials in New Mexico - but NM don't want to prosecute, since it didn't cost them anything to find her.
- the family called for the Georgia police search - but she didn't commit a federal crime within the borders of Georgia - well at least last time I checked bording a bus isn't a crime!

Truth is a 3 edged sword.

If she escapes prosecution, then she either planned and pulled off the perfect crime or she's lucky as hell. At the very least, her family should offer to reimbursh some costs to the local law enforcment. If their attitude is "Let the little people bear the expense", it will not be good PR for them.

Yeah...

If all she did was disappear and didn't want to be found, then the Georgia officials and whatever spent tons of money and resources looking for her, that's on them. We all have a right to disappear if we want.

But where I get off the bus (no pun intended,) is when she starts lying and saying she was kidnapped and also apparently lying that it was spur of the moment. For that, she needs the book thrown at her.

Not to mention the free donuts (and whathaveyou) that the local businesses handed out to searchers!

Truth is a 3 edged sword.
