When I made to change to 9.2.1 all worked well except on my Que Fire 924x-10x-40x) CD-RW fire wire burner...toast light 5.0.2 worked on the computer but would not recognize I have a burner. I called for support and he told me to set a new set of extensions and disable the following extensions: authoring support, disc burner extension, firewire authoring support, SDAP authoring support, USB authoring support...he also said I should disable itunes & ipod but there were not in the extensions....

When I created the new extensions, the burner and all else on the computer worked as in the past ....then when I went to shut down the computer later that night, it would not shut down....the control strip went away be the computer never shut down...this happens almost all the time since but sometimes it did not ...I tried to recreate it every time but could not.... I ran DiskWarrior and it found nothing and then did Norton system works 2.0 and it said the following:

Norton Disk Doctor 5.0.2 Disk Examination Report
Disk: Macintosh HD
Sat, Oct 26, 2002, 9:32 AM

Major errors were found.
Some minor problems were not fixed
Some major problems were not fixed.
Check for Defective Media
This step was stopped before it completed. First you should probably let DiskWarrior or Norton fix all those problems. Of course, Norton is probably the cause of those problems, so it stands to reason you should let it fix it.

I would reinstall the system. Not being able to shut down is generally NOT an extension conflict. Before reinstalling, remove ALL non-apple extensions and restart and see if the problem persists. If it doesn't, then start adding the extensions back in one or two at a time until it hangs when you try to shut down again. Then at least you know what extension is causing the problem.

[color:red] Kiss My Banana!

Use DiskWarrior! Norton will often screw up the drive moer thoroughly than it was before you used it.

Great wits are sure to madness near allied.--John Dryden, "Absalom and Achitophel"
Thanks for your imput....I have found that DiskWarrior does not find the same things that Norton does, such as bad modification dates and a few other things...I have been told that I should do DiskWarrior first and then Norton and skip the directories on Norton...in the past on 9.0.4 this worked very well for me...I really do not want to re-install the all of OS9! Hope maybe some other ideas are out there, but if I have to I will, boooooo!!!

You're preaching to the choir... I haven't owned a Norton product (or any disk repair utility) in years. (I'm thinking System 7 was the last time I used a disk repair utility)

[color:red] Kiss My Banana!
