Here in Texas the cheapest I've found is $2.11 for regular, of course I have to use premium in my car which is around $2.27....and that's a bargain. I work by DFW Airport and premium out there is a whopping $2.70. Needless to say I fill up closer to home. If hybrids weren't so outrageous I'd seriously consider one but at the moment they are as expensive as luxury/sports cars. I saw a news story yesterday about a guy that just bought a Toyota Prius hybrid and is selling it for a $10,000 profit on eBay.

Using premium may not be the best choice in this high-price era. What I mean is fewer and fewer people are buying premium, which means the fuel is probably old and stale and can cause problems. It did for a friend of mine.

I have tried regular and my car won't run on it without problems. The stock 300 hp rating wouldn't allow it and I've modified the engine to produce 425 hp which needs every octane point it can get. I would have to add octane booster to compensate, which is too expensive. I have to use Mobil1 synthetic oil too. In fact the user manual doesn't just recommend it, it states you MUST use synthetic oil and premium gas for proper daily operation. I go to the same station to fill up and I haven't had any problem with the premium yet.
