Comcast has had two DNS outages in the last week. Here's a workaround. Copy and paste the text, don't bookmark it.

Thank You!!

Everyone I know that has Comcast has had this problem in the last 2 weeks. My neighbor came over last week asking if my service was down, I hadn't been on that night so I checked and sure enough it was down. I was able to connect to my iDisk and upload and download no problem. That's when I suspected a DNS problem. When I got to the office the next day our IT guy asked me if I was down the night before, he confirmed he was too and that it was a DNS problem. It happened again last night but no iDisk.

I hear complaints in forums about Comcast but they have been near perfect for me. I have been with virtually the same service under different owners since '98, first was Storer Cable, then @Home, then AT&T (the worst service) and now Comcast. They've been good in the sense that it hardly ever goes down and the speeds are much faster than our T1 at the office. Customer Service is another issue, Comcast has been the best but I do get tired of my calls being redirected to India and then they sit there and read a script. Their Mac support has been better than the previous services though.

I'm giving it a try. I think I did it right. They don't have an OS X walk through. But, my Comcast Fraudband has been on for 1 minute, off for 15 seconds, on for 1 minute, off for 15 seconds, on for 1 minute,...for a few days now. Nothing new with them.

Hmm...

My service with Comcast has been exceptional. I'm on at all times of the day and night, and I'd estimate uptime over the past 2+ years has been >98%. Easily. Early on, when I first subscribed, there were more problems than I've had in the past 18 months. Since then, I have no complaints.

There's been some sort of [color:DARKCYAN]trojan running around that's been infecting DNS servers and causing DDoS attacks, and that may be what the problems have come from. Last week at about 2:30am EST I was having some problems. I called, and the tech guy said there were widespread DNS problems in the SE Pennsylvania area (around Philly) but they were aware of it and worrking on it. 10 minutes later I was back up and running.

I've noticed a wee bit of slowness over the past few weeks, but nothing that was completely dealbreaking.

Makes me wish I had all of my bookmarks annotated with the numerical URLs, for just such an emergency, so I could bypass the DNS lookup when problems like this occurr. But, considering how good my service has been, to work at gathering all of those numeric URLs would be an exercise in diminishing returns.

I've had stellar service with them as well, except the last two weeks and last night in particular. A call to their tech support confirmed they were having serious DNS problems, likely caused by that trojan.

Last night Comcast had another DNS outage/attack. Those server addresses you posted worked like a charm. I think they were actually faster than usual. Thanks again Mike!
