C'mon Matt, why else would you start this thread less than 20 minutes after my last post to you.

And Bryan, you mean to tell me that you guys aren't swinging bats here on MM? Albeit, you may not swing as hard as Matt, but c'mon on, the marginalize comment, that's not a dig?

At least well all get to leave these forums with our lives and limbs intact.

In reply to:

C'mon Matt, why else would you start this thread less than 20 minutes after my last post to you.

You know Steve (rX), tonight I recieved a call from my good friend of fifteen years. I could tell she wasn't herself because she sounded hoarse and very, very down. Long story extremely short: her twin brother was killed in a car accident. Now, at times like these, I couldn't really give a ripe red ass as to your reasons "why" I would start a thread like this less than 20 minutes after your last post. Probably because it was something I'd thought of posting last night when I was noticing how little trafficked MC has become, and just forgot. It could've been that I kept forgetting to post it today because I was busy off and on all midday/afternoon.

Who knows ..

But, what I CAN promise you Steve, is that it wasn't because I was thinking of you. Really. Cross my heart.

****************
[color:red]Fat people are harder to kidnap

I'm very sorry to hear about your friends loss. Terrible tragedy. Back in March, a close friend of mine lost his sister and her husband in a terrible snow mobile accident. They got lost in a snow storm and went through the ice. She drowned, her husband managed to get her out of the river and he later died from exposure. Terrible tragedies for sure.

Well according to JimD MC will never be shut down - makes sense

The Skinny by some admin.
MW does not like to have 2 completely different data bases and have to support both. Soooooo marginalizing yes = sorta. MC was overhead and competition that MW did not need.

MW strip MC and moved everything over to MW - the MC forums are really only whats left of MC, reduced to a private chat room so to speak, there is a link at MW to MC Classic Forums but thats about it.

As long as the the forum does not become a money drain for MW the forum will live on and on. Right now the forum only takes up space on some server somewhere but no longer takes resources away like its news section did.

In reply to:

Right now the forum only takes up space on some server somewhere but no longer takes resources away like its news section did.

While I agree with your basic sentiment, I think you would be surprised how much the SQL database takes up – I run a few Web sites and I can tell you that a database the size of MC can be a real drain.

Personally, while it's no secret that I lost nearly all interest in MC, I hate to see it lingering on the brink like it is. They should just get rid of the "Classic" forums and be done with it already. It would be a shame to lose all those posts, but it IS going to happen, so why not get it over with.

CreativeGuy: For your "fix" of design software tips, tricks & commentary.

One word "Legacy"

Possible that the head gear at MW would love to kill it dead on the spot. However the Legacy comes in not only for the news section but as its forums as-well. To kill it over night would be a publicity nightmare for MW.

So I bet that MW is betting on that MC will slowly fade away and dry up - sorta go into the dark night all by itself and then pull the plug when no one is left <-- thats not going to happen anytime soon

Exactly...it's dumb to have such a muddled strategy.

At this point, I would shut down the Maccentral forums, blow out the posts and create a lounge in the Macworld forums (sans the overbearing MW mods) and call it a day.

With all due respect to JimD, just because his corporate bosses have assured him that MCF with never be shut down doesn't mean it won't happen. All it takes is one personnel change who doesn't feel obligated to honor any past committments. Maybe Jim has it in writing but legal contracts are broken all the time and what's Jim going to do, sue them over something that doesn't make any money for anyone?

As far as any potential publicity nightmare, really, who's going to care beyond the MCF members? If MacAddict bought MacNN and shut down the forums, would you protest?

Of course, this discussion is kind of amusing coming from a forum that's not doing too good either.
