I know what you mean Steve, that feature looked awfully cool to me too. But, the more I thought about it, the less I liked the idea. It's great to keep yourself organized (building letterhead, envelopes & biz cards for a client in one document for example) but if you have to send the file to someone else for output (as opposed to creating PDFs) it simply invites problems.

Some features just aren't worth using.

Sure took long enough for self destruction.
Really thats what Quark wanted in the first place was to dump the Mac support in favor of PCs.

When the creator of Quark stepped down and placed a PC weenie as CEO <--- he said that Quark will be switching all its resources to the PC market, thats where all the money is - Macs are dead sooo they spent years developing for PCs and did not look back.

To late arse holes LOL LOL

I still have to use Quark because I work in Prepress but I only do so grudgingly. 6 has been a royal pain the arse mainly because MOST of our customers who still use Quark (a dwindling number) still use Quark 4 or 5. Unfortunately, the agencies who create their artwork (also forced to use Quark because that's what their/our client demand they use) use 6 which means that we have to open it in 6 and save it to 5 then open it in 5 and save it to 4 in order to archive the job for them. Ughhh what a pain. It also means I still have use Classic on my machine =(

That multiple layouts thing is also a problem. Anybody notice that the SECOND time (but not the first time) you print the document to file without closing it first Quark will always insert "Print..." in front of the name? Why why why? The preference setting for that is useless since it apparently ignores it anyway. So typical of Quark to release buggy as hell CRAP.

I'm sorry that with the suicide of Quark there will only be one king of layout programs. I think competition and choice is important, but Quark stopped competing a long time ago and now it's just sad.

Yah, the 6 to 5 to 4 dance is a royal PIA. At least most of my vendors that still require Quark are using 6, so I have a lot less retro-version saving. There's very little in QXP 6 that works as advertised, and yet, they promote it like it's still THE page layout software. May as well say turpentine is diet soda!
