the conservative media has really taken a commanding lead in viewership. thanks.

--
Straw-man rhetorical techniques are the practice of refuting weaker arguments than one's opponents offer. 2 "set up a straw man" or "set up a straw-man argument" is 2 create a position easily refuted, then attribute that position to your opponent.

In reply to:

the conservative media has really taken a commanding lead in viewership. thanks.

There's no question that the liberal media has lost its stranglehold on the airwaves. No longer can they pass along liberal indoctrination via CBS, ABC, NBC, CNN, The New York Times, Boston Globe, LA Times, NPR, PBS .. without getting called on it, or losing their viewers.

The liberal media is a dying dinosaur ... But hang in there Sean. Don't get too depressed. I'm sure you guys will figure out a more effective way of passing along liberal indoctrination .. Say, I know! Maybe Democrats can fund an all-liberal radio network ...

****************
no sig

As Lewis Black pointed out a couple of days ago, the Fox network has a great system there. 10 million people watch the vapid programming on the Fox Network and 5 million different people watch Fox News to feel outraged by its moral depravity.

-- Charlie Alpha Roger Yankee Whiskey

I can't stand listening to Hannity or Limbaugh for more than 15 minutes. By the same token I can't stand listening to Franken for more than 15 minutes either. The endless harangues are just exhausting. The only talk radio host I can listen to for any length of time is Neal Boortz. Maybe since he's a Libertarian he doesn't necessarily toe the Republican party line so I can't always predict what his position will be ( a problem I never have with the other guys). I probably don't agree with him 2/3rds of the time but he's usually entertaining and thought-provoking and I wind up quoting him way more than anyone else on the radio. Plus, he'll usually grant callers way more time than any other host, usually so they can hang themselves.

The problem with all the other guys is, as long as they have their fingers on the kill switch, you're never going to get a balanced argument. Usually they'll cut off callers just as they're making good points and then ridicule them for the next hour with no chance for them to defend themselves. I guess some people enjoy that but it seems childish to me.

In reply to:

you see, that's the difference. we have al franken and others on that liberal radio network and it's not doing all that well. i certainly don't listen

Well .. It seems the professor and I do have something in common. I can't stand listening to the blatherings of former comedian turned hate-monger Al Franken either. And yes, it's true, Democrat-backed Air-America isn't doing well.

In reply to:

i don't enjoy sitting around and having someone else tell me what i should be angry about.

Translation: like a true liberal, Prof here advances the myth that people need to be told what to think and what to feel .. like how to spend their money. If people aren't thinking what liberals think, or feeling what liberals feel, the answer is obvious: they've been brain-washed .. OF COURSE!

In reply to:

here are a lot of people who enjoy just that. case in point, the #1 rated television and radio news and talk shows.

It should be noted that The O'Reilly Factor isn't a television news show and Rush Limbaugh isn't a radio news show. These are opinion based talk shows. These are Op/Ed pages come to life. Only in Sean's world does he equate Rush Limbaugh with the CBS Evening News. He's trying to convince you that there's absolutely no difference between Dan Rather and Rush Limbaugh. Of course, there is a difference – Dan's been fired and Rush still has his day job.

I find it ironic that Sean continues his crusade against the "Faux News Channel", yet, as far as I know, Fox News hasn't completey passed off lies as factual information, or rushed to use fake documents, easily pointed out by bloggers within hours of freshly being printed, in a hit-piece against the President during the recent election. Yet, in Sean's looking glass world, Fox News is the dangerous one, while the established media are the real "Faux News" outlets.

If nothing else, Professor, it's an interesting peep at your down is up and left is .. well .. way left, world.

****************
no sig
