Can't find any reference to the Lord saying that, but I did find this one.......

If brethren dwell together, and one of them die, and have no child, the wife of the dead shall not marry without unto a stranger: her husband's brother shall go in unto her, and take her to him to wife, and perform the duty of an husband's brother unto her. And it shall be, that the firstborn which she beareth shall succeed in the name of his brother which is dead, that his name be not put out of Israel. And if the man like not to take his brother's wife, then let his brother's wife go up to the gate unto the elders, and say, My husband's brother refuseth to raise up unto his brother a name in Israel, he will not perform the duty of my husband's brother.

Then the elders of his city shall call him, and speak unto him: and if he stand to it, and say, I like not to take her; Then shall his brother's wife come unto him in the presence of the elders, and loose his shoe from off his foot, and spit in his face, and shall answer and say, So shall it be done unto that man that will not build up his brother's house.

And his name shall be called in Israel, The house of him that hath his shoe loosed.

Just a little something to share from a search of the bible on the subject of marry or marriage. Couldn't find anything that included men marrying men or women marrying women, sorry.

Personally I think people should start using common sense and not rely on government to fix all their problems. Hospitals should allow lifetime partners visitation, etc.

Gays and Lesbians need to stop bashing Christians and their God as "wrong". Christians live by a moral code that does not include gay marriage - let them live with their beliefs. They're not the only religion that excludes such a union. At least in the US you don't get stoned to death!

Christians need to accept that not everyone follows their set of morals, in fact they sin too - and in the eyes of God, one sin is not worse than any other, they are equally as bad. And the wages of sin is death, all sin, 1 punnishment. Let he who is without sin cast the first stone.

Government is not in the business of religion, and religion should likewise stay out of government.

In reply to:

Government is not in the business of religion, and religion should likewise stay out of government.

Amen. The problem now is that in a quest for greater tolerance, some people have become intolerant. Religious expression should be preserved and protected, wherever it may be practiced.

If somebody wants to hang the 10 commandments in the lobby of the county courthouse, then so be it. Just as long as any other religions are allowed to post their religious symbols. Same thing goes for Nativity scenes.

We've got an entire group of people in this country that sit around looking for a reason to be "offended." Frankly, they need to be lined up and shot. Oops...that's not very tolerant, is it?

BWAHHAHAHAHHA

Well the 10 commandments are a portion of an historical document, that is used as the basis of two religions. I think you'll find most of them were used in founding our modern laws - though these days we only consider #5, #8 & #9 to be worth legislating these days.

Oh, and I fully agree with your assessment of legions of people lining up to be "offended". I laugh at the offense of the Superbowl boob of 2004 - it recorded the largest TiVo hit of all time - I wonder how many of those people were trying to figure out if they needed to be offended or not. Yet nobody seems to think that warnings about 4 hour errections are not suitable for family viewing!!
Edited by Llewelyn on 02/23/05 10:27 AM (server time).

"...one sin is not worse than any other, they are equally as bad."

Sorry, but I'll have to disagree with you on that one. God sees murder much different than using the Lords name in vain.

Not really.....

The wages of sin (any sin) is death, but the free gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ.

Seems to indicate that it doesn't matter if you commit genocide or steal an apple - either way the penalty is death, unless you confess your sins and accept Jesus as your personal saviour.

Your assessment is true for humanity. But God does not work to our value system.

However, consider this:
- a soldier killing someone in combat.
- a policeman shooting a criminal who is threatening him with a weapon.
- a policeman shooting a criminal who is thought to have a weapon.
- a policeman accidently hitting a 3yo child while shooting at a violent criminal.
- killing someone who has broken into your house and is threatening you with a baseball bat.
- hitting a home intruder over the back of his head with a heavy object resulting in the intruders death.
- being at fault in a motor accident that results in one or more deaths.
- someone dying due to your negligence.
- you planning and carrying out the unlawful killing of, say, your ex-wife.

Different people will view each of those actions with a differing perspective. Some will forgive some of those actions, but not other actions. Your moral values are different from mine. And you hear of some stories where the father of a murdered daughter can and does forgive her murderer - does that make you less tolerant than him?

According to the bible, God doesn't differentiate, sin is sin, and all will be judged equally.
