What the country needs now is a congressional investigation into the hiring and granting of tenure procedures of American Universities. The Ward Churchill hullaballoo is just a sign of where most of these universities are at. Illuminating the policies of these universities would be and eye opener for the American people and the alumni of these once prestigious schools. How can the faculty be so lopsided to the left is a conundrum. Why would schools give a stage to bomb throwers of the sixties but refuse to give the same stage to conservatives. It would be interesting to see the fifth amendment protection being invoked when some of these professors are asked if they are for the violent overthrow of the U.S. Government. The very least this would do is educate the American people and the Alumni what they are letting their children in for. The pollution of young minds. I think you would see a rapid change in their hiring policies

at least now you're asking for information instead of just throwing around ignorant accusations.

i think most faculty around the country leans to the left in how they vote. i also think most faculty are professional enough not to allow their politics to influence their teaching. being liberal (or conservative) does not automatically equal the claims you're making. but, i'd like to see you support some of those claims.

--
Straw-man rhetorical techniques are the practice of refuting weaker arguments than one's opponents offer. 2 "set up a straw man" or "set up a straw-man argument" is 2 create a position easily refuted, then attribute that position to your opponent.

Why does everything these days raise calls of "get a Congressional investigation". Churchill is/was a jerk, get over it.

As to why is academia so left wing biased?
- Right wing sees competition as a good thing and generally scores points with money earned. No money in teaching, therefore the rightwingers head to Wall Street and leave teaching alone.
- Left wing scores on how much of other peoples money they can spend. Schooling in the US is an huge black hole that millions of dollars is dumped into with very little observable improvement.

I don't think there should be any sort of investigation, but I also think the tenure system should be abolished. Make it like the private sector: pay and advancement for performance.

As for Ward Churchill...leave him right where he is! In fact, promote him....have him blog for the DNC and star in their commercials, too!

Isn't this an issue for the universities themselves along with the state governments that oversee them? I don't think the fed has any business here.

-- Charlie Alpha Roger Yankee Whiskey
