We always read so much about "right-wing Republicans," but hardly ever about "left-wing Democrats?"

A quick search on Google News reveals 88 instances of the phrase "right-wing Republicans," but only 5 showings of "left-wing Democrats."

Why the media obsession with the right wing?

With the rise in power of the far right the democrats have felt that to stay competitive they must move more to the right as well. Hence, the "left-wing" Democrat is rare. There are no democrats that represent my views (big surprise, I know, but I don't think it was always this way).

Maybe another reason is that the term "left-wing" doesn't have the same zing to it that the old "L" word does, so plug that into google instead and see what you get.

...either that or its a media obsession with the right wing.
