We were handed our first loss of the season today--the other team kicked our butts but good. Our guys didn't play well at all. Of course, we haven't practiced or played for two weeks. Still they coulda shoulda done better. The kids are all depressed, but they'll get over it.

Great wits are sure to madness near allied.--John Dryden, "Absalom and Achitophel"

I didn't know anything at all about it. Except for a very very unfortunate experience in jr. high school, when I learned the importance of cups, I'd never seen or been close to soccer. But there's nothing like having a kid in a sport to make you learn. Now I really love it.

Great wits are sure to madness near allied.--John Dryden, "Absalom and Achitophel"

Agreed, carp. I hope the coach did too. It was his decision not to practice for two weeks. I tried to talk him out of it, but that's what happened. I really don't care about wins and losses--and in fact the team that won absolutely deserved to win. I do care about the kids playing together as a team, learning to depend on each other and such. That's where we failed today, I think.

Great wits are sure to madness near allied.--John Dryden, "Absalom and Achitophel"

Thats the whole process.
Is to learn about winning and loseing. Its not about the game in general but more about life. Sports is a great vehicle for children to learn about (feelings) both winning and loseing like in Math, Science, History aswell as in soccer - to me sports teaches the kids to get up and win again.
