#204166 - 11/15/0408:48 AMLooking for magnetic iSight mount
Anyone out there have a magnetic mount for the iSight that they are not using?

I need one for my iMac G5, and I'll be damned if Apple thinks I'm going to shell out $30 for the new accessory kit just for a single piece of plastic.

I'll either trade for one of the unused mounts from the rev. A iSight, or I can PayPal you a reasonable amount for the magnetic mount and your shipping.

Thanks in advance.

The iMac G5 is designed with this mount in mind, so I don't think it's something worth worrying about, but obviously I wouldn't be trying to stick the magnetic mount directly over the hard drive. Better safe than sorry.

I used the sticky mount on the back of my imac initially but then I realized that the magnetic isight mount from apple is not magnetic itself..the magnet is actually built into the top of the imac...run a piece of metal over it and see for yourself. The solution? I just wrapped a thin piece of steel over the bottom of one of my existing isight mounts ( I peeled the steel off a large fridge magnet cover) and now I am able to use my isight on top of my imac with no problem. I painted the steel white with liquid paper so it is now almost invisible.

Getting the sticky mount of off the back of the imac was a chore though...thread didn't work, neither did dental floss..i ended up (carefully) using a swiss army penknife...it worked and no scratches either.
Edited by globewriter on 02/21/05 03:27 PM (server time).
