This would be great. The DNC either has to become more christian and homophobic and get to the right of the Republicans becoming Republican II or it goes back to the left and real liberalism where it belongs. Howard Dean could do that. He has a back bone and sticks to his guns. He knew the Iraq war was a huge mistake and he is being proven right. Over the next four years this will only become clearer, He could put the fire back into the Democrats. Or the Dems could continue trying to be Republican Light and get their butts kicked again.

At the 2006 midterms Dean could chant the mantra "Iraq was Stupid". By then it will be obvious to even the rabid warmongers and the Dems will start winning seats back.

Have you noticed a groundswell of Christianaphobic panic spreading across the liberal landscape since last Tuesday? It's not unexpected, of course. It's straight out of the manual: all religions are to be respected and tolerated, except Christianity, which is to be endlessly mocked, similar to its cousin in hate: racism.

****************

= days numbered

You can find examples of any religion being disrespected. As for tolerance, I believe every religion in the US, including Christianity is tolerated.

Tolerance means others are free to practice their religion without persecution, as long as it doesn't negatively impact others. Unfortunately, some people believe tolerance means foisting their religion on others by ways of laws and consitutional amendments.

Are you talking about "here" as in "the U.S." or just specifically here in the forum? I think Christianity is taking a hit from many mainly because our current leaders have made it a relatively large and public part of their policy-making decisions -- decisions that effect all of us regardless of religion. So naturally that belief system is going to come under greater scrutiny and criticism from those who don't necessarily belong to it.

I would expect the same of, say, Bhuddism if a President had said it had influenced him heavily in the making of policy ...

Naturally, the extremes are going to take this to greater and perhaps outrageous lengths than would the more moderate ...

***matt

Turn up the signal, wipe out the noise ...

You weren't talking about MM. You were talking about "the liberal landscape". To me that implies all liberals all over the US where you'll find all religions are mocked, not just Christianity.

Regardless, who cares? Perhaps someone has a beef with Christianity, and not other religions. Do they have to mock all religions equally? If you feel that Christianity has been mocked unfairly, post a counterpoint to the mocking, and be done with it.

And what do you know of the context of the piece titled "Piss Christ" by Andres Serrano?

Yes, it seems to be a condemnation of Christianity if you look at it once and have no context. But if you know the history of the artist, his ancestry and the materials of the piece (obviously urine is one component, but there's a context to the materials of the crucifix too) you might be able to see that an attack on Christianity itself was not the artists intent at all.

So can we non-conservatives now start knee-jerk accusing the conservatives of being paranoid and always acting as if Christianity is trying to be phased out against their will?
