link

kudos to ABC for taking it to the SBVT and trying to check their story out. by the way, o'neill was on nightline tonight to talk about what ABC found out in Vietnam. ABC News made a trip to Vietnam to trace the coordinates of the Swift Boats that Kerry was on. they talked to the villagers and found several that had families in the battles that were questioned. there's more at the link above, but kerry's account (and the Navy's account) sure sounds like it's on the money now.

in fact, O'Neil was so agitated and evasive during the segment that i nearly felt sorry for the guy. then he'd skip the question and advertise his book instead. pretty pathetic showing. i wonder if this story will get equal time to the SBVT smear campaign? and, what about sinclair now? hard to call that documentary news any more now that it appears to be based upon falsehoods.

--
one of the penalties for refusing to participate in politics is that you end up being governed by your inferiors. -Plato
But the liberal media is ignoring the SBVt liars. Do you mean they actually went out and tried to find out what really happened? Pfft. Like that happens all the time. Commie BS isn't going to do it. CBS should give O'Neil a microphone and let him do a 30 minute infomercial on SBVT. That would be fair and balanced.

luciferase is a four nineteener

In reply to:

The media is liberal. Prove your charge that these Vietnam Veterans are "liars."

the navy has said that they stand by their account. almost every man on John Kerry's actual boat has agreed with John Kerry's account (and the official Navy account). [EDIT: not to mention, the Vietnamese's story and the navy documents matched almost perfectly, and it has been 30 years.] If that's not enough for you then you're just too biased. the SBVT generated a great deal of news reporting. this is almost all attributed to the advertising they did. frankly, i am pissed that the media didn't devote the same amount of time to moveon.org and their ads. damn conservative media.

--
one of the penalties for refusing to participate in politics is that you end up being governed by your inferiors. -Plato
Edited by sean on 10/15/04 10:20 AM (server time).

The media bias is off the charts with the Swift Boat Vets.

They have been largely ignored, despite the fact that there are a large number of them with facts to back up their positions.

Yet, some discredited hack with an axe to grind gets carte blanche on CBS to trash the president with forged documents.

There are two sets of rules in the media; one for Democrats and one for Republicans (except liberal Republicans like McCain, Hagel, etc which are 'principled Republicans' and the Democratic rules apply to them.)

Last night, when confronted with evidence regarding the firefight incident leading to Kerry's Silver Star medal, O'Neil's position was reduced to nothing but hearsay and made-up stories. O'Neil did not produce any evidence other than what he says in his own book, a misquote from "Tour of Duty" and an unauthorized Kerry biography from the Boston Globe.

The Navy records and eyewitness accounts all corroborated the story, while O'Neill offered nothing but his own statement in his book. O'Neill also denied that any SBVT was involved with an earlier attempt to coerce the Vietnamese witnesses into making statements against Kerry, yet these witnesses claimed, out of the blue, that SBV's were there recently asking them to say things on camera about a man named Kerry who wanted to be president of the United States.

Koppel was excellent at researching and conducting this interview. He kept the story on the one incident and presented quite openly that the story could unfold either way. O'Neil was given many opportunities to state his case, but he did nothing more that diminish his own credibility with nonsensical ranting and book waving, saying repeatedly that Kerry was an honored Communist hero and that Vietnam had "elections that are 100% elections" (?)

Kudos to NightLine for an example of honest journalism.

while i think your premise is wrong and is mere wishful thinking on your part, i'll play along.

pay attention to what matt is saying. he's saying the navy is a bunch of dishonorable, lying bastards. he hates the military.

right matt?

--
one of the penalties for refusing to participate in politics is that you end up being governed by your inferiors. -Plato
