I use a OSX machine and use Apple Works as a word processor.

I wish to transfer data from an OSX machine to a colleague’s machine
operating on OS9.
Previously I have used an Iomega zip drive with no problems, but have recently bought a flash drive.
When I copy my files to the flash drive I have checked they open on the OSX
machine.
On the OS9 machine they will not open and appear as a grey icon with the
letters PC.

The flash drive works correctly on OS9 and on a Windows machine, so
there appears to be no problem with the flash drive as such.
Can anyone advise?

If so, try opening AppleWorks on that machine and going to File>Open and navigate to them form there.

It probably wouldn't hurt to rebuild the desktop either. You can do that by holding [command]-[option] at startup.

Thanks for all your interest in my problem.
Yes I did mean files produced in AppleWorks on th OSX machine will not open on the OS9 machine.
I can see the files on the flash drive but as grey objects with the letters PC.

Saying "no luck" doesn't give us much to go on. When you opened AppleWorks on MacOS 9, went to File menu, chose Open (note you may have to set the FileType to "all files" in the open dialogue box) and opened the file, what exactly happened?
