I'd sign up as Winston Churchill...so I could post things like "I’m Winston Churchill, ooo, would you like some tea? I would because I’m Winston Churchill. Would you like a krumpett? I would because I’m Winston Churchill. Would you like to wear nickers? I would because I’m…”

RE: Cloistered Politics/War discussion area.

I have to say this is a good idea.

We started ONE thread over in the Adobe Photoshop Lounge and called it "The Stupid Politics and War Thread." It's raison d'etre was to keep all of that stuff out of other threads, where its presence was causing a lot of great discussions to explode in flames.

It has worked remarkably well, because visitors knew where to go if they wanted to engage in that sort of stuff, and where to stay away from if they didn't.

Recently, however, one particularly contentious participant got way out of hand with personal attacks. He was put on Read-Only status, and the thread was locked. But, the thread lasted for a couple months (from 18 June until earlier this week) and fomented a lot of good discussion (2200 posts), despite the heat it generated at times, and it pretty much kept the crap out of other threads.

Since that person's banishment (he'll be reinstated...he's just being given a "spanking" for awhile), another Politics thread has been started. I expect it will last a long time as well. And because the participants know that political arguments are to be contained there, the rest of the Lounge has been much friendlier to navigate for those who wish to sidestep the arguments.

I have to wonder if Cian (Afterglow) had Mr. Belvedere in the back of his mind when he created that AvatarIcon?
