Hey guys and gals, <br>Stan, Slava and I are currently in the process of adding some new features to MacMinute and we would like to get your thoughts on new forum software. After an exhaustive search, we kept coming back to phpbb. Please have a look at the features and let us know what you think. We are switching software for one main reason: integrated story feedback.<br><br>However, there may be some big drawbacks. How important are the following to you?<br><br>1) Old messages/threads<br>2) Usernames carried over<br>3) Your forum ranking (how many posts you have)<br><br>Names should not be a problem, nor messages, but ideally we would like to start from scratch. As you can imagine, it would be a helluva lot easier to start completely clean. We have known many Webmasters with large forums, and trying to convert is an absolute nightmare. I guess what we're saying is what is more important to you... story feedback and new forum features or your current status.<br><br>Cheers,<br>Larry<br>

Important:<br>- old messages<br>- username<br>- threads with new postings at the top of the listings<br>- flat reading mode - I want to read the whole thread without clicking up and down a hierarchy<br><br>Not important:<br>- ranking. It would be nice, but I wouldn't be upset if it didn't get transferred<br><br><br>
- Old threads- well, I won't be happy but I'm willing to sacrifice for the greater good<br>- Usernames- hell yes, but if post counts and rankings don't go with it, it won't be much problem to register again.<br><br>Here's my feeling on titles and rankings- let us make up our OWN. It's a lot more fun, and there's none of the inherent post-padding to get to the next level.<br><br>phpbb is a great software package- I use it for my own site, and I think people will adjust well as it's not all that much different from what we have now.<br><br>As long as the avatars stay! <br><br>Oh, and put the words 'bush' and 'kerry' on the censored list... <br><br>[color:white]God speed, mikeb. No avatars... no making up your own. In fact... DaddyMac has to change his name to DiaperHead and his post padding won't change because it will be stuck a poo-poo for his tenure at the new forum. I like it. <br><br>
