Help! I'm looking for someone that knows a thing or two about the X server addition. Trying to wrap up the outfit of the lab and need help making network accounts for students (when they log in I want them to open their Home folder stored on the network...not the local Hard Drive). Was able to figure out the Network install image, but this Home folder biz has got me perplexed. Can anyone help? Thanks in advance.<br><br>

We had it running on an eMac & 10.3.x server, thence on an XServer & 10.3.x server. We have now disabled the feature due to the limitations of our non-gigabit network. The accounts would run so slowly as not to be useable when we have more than 20 people logged onto the server. Flash MX 2004 was just unusable with some actions taking up to 10 minutes. We had spent weeks trying to figure it out but it just came down to disabling network login and everything is running smoothly again.<br><br>It's a great idea but not something we can implement until we can get gigabit ethernet switches in place and all the Macs we have (140+) support gigabit ethernet. We could be wrong on this but nobody seems to be able to come up with any other answer.<br><br>

I wonder if it's better to have the OS boot locally and only use the server for home directories. Other things to check are where the /tmp directory and swap space is (server or local).<br><br><br>
