Forgive me nutty, but I don't see what your point is. Everybody knows that 20 years ago we were allied with Iraq. At the time he was fighting with Iran, and we were not on good terms with Iran. Admittedly not our finest hour, but what does that have to do with Saddam working with the people who attacked our country. 20 years ago we supported him, His actions over the last 15 years turned him into an enemy, and he paid the price.

Salus populi suprema lex

I just can't understand this obsession to know if Saddam and Osama were connected. What's the big deal? They are both criminals.. They both kill those who disagree with them.. They are both enemies to the US and at one point in time were friends with the US. Interests change, businesses fluctuate, companies breakup.

Saddam is down, one to go.. I wonder who's next. Syria? Libya? Iran? Saudi Arabia? Bahrain? The rest of the oil puddle? Ooops, I forgot, it's all for freedom.. Dang, I keep forgetting.

(alAnonymous, this is not an answer to your comment, but just wanted to continue the thread where you left off )

Let me go out on a limb here. Saddam and Osama kill those who disagree with them. What do countries like the US do, for instance when they disagree with the policies of the president of Panama? Or when they think that the leader of Grenada is doing something they don't agree with? Or when the president of Chile is going "in the wrong direction"? Or . . . .

Obviously all the examples I've used are from US foreign policy, and that's because US foreign policy, at least what's made public about it, is what I know. I'm sure the same is true of other countries, especially countries with an international reach.

None of this means I approve of what bin Laden or Saddam did or continue to do.

Because you were obviously bashing Reagan and Bush the elder so you must be unpatriotic.

You did make one slip. Reagan didn't invade Grenada because he disagreed with them. He just wanted to distract everyone from pulling out of Beruit days after the Marine barracks were attacked. That also comes with a caveat. No one remembers that there was a second bomb that went off minutes after the Marine barracks were blown up. Some 70 plus French paratroopers were killed at the same time. They were there helping out their friends. The Americans.

Small corrections if I may.

disagree with the policies of the president of Panama

It was not about policies so to speak - Noriega was a Drug Lord.

Or when they think that the leader of Grenada is doing something they don't agree with?

Grenada had a deal with CUBA that allowed Cuba to station troops there - When Cuban troops placed a quarantine on American medical students on their campus - that triggered the response to rescue the students with a over welding force. Up until then nobody even heard of Grenada
