Just got back from Ft. Worth this afternoon after 4 days of NASCAR immersion on behalf of one of my clients, who is the title sponsor for IROC (International Race of Champions). Lemme tell ya, this is a different world. Bigger than any other sport in the U.S., and the fans are utterly rabbid. They loooooooooooooove to race!

The Texas Motor Speedway is something to behold. 250,000 capacity. It just sprawls.

And sitting in the stands watching cars go by at nearly 200mph is a chest-crushing, ear-splitting, one-of-a-kind experience. Here are some pics.

And now I gotta get some sleep. Zzzzzzzzzzzzzzz...

i agree that it's an experience. i am not "into" nascar, but i did go to the opening of the chicagoland speedway for a nascar weekend about 2 years ago. it was an interesting experience to say the least and those fans are as rabid as it gets. wow! it's certainly a different world.

i was at the in-law's house this weekend and my wife's brother had your nascar race on...if i had known you'd be there, i would have tried to pick you out of the crowd of 250,000.

----
"even if we get bin Laden or Zawahiri now, it is 2 years 2 late. LOL. Dunno a/b becoming a car freak. But I had forgotten that Texas wrote book on Hospitality. And while the race goes by at 200 mph, the pace of life there is more like 5 mph, and everyone goes out of their way to make you feel welcome.

(I still prefer MacWorld Expo — I like my speed measured in ghz's)

Great pictures! I have been to several NASCAR races. It just amazes me every-time I go how fast those cars can go and how quick the crew can work on them. I noticed you seemed to have had pit and garage passes. Did you get to meet any of the drivers?

As someone who has driven 180+MPH around an oval track in a NASCAR stock car, let me tell you that it's all about challenge. Challenge of control, stamina, wit, guts and strategy - let alone the challenge of the pit crew to keep the car running.

I don't care for watching it, but don't knock it til you try it buddy, cause I can say from experience that even 10 laps will knock you on your ass for the rest of the day!

My uptime is longer than yours, therefore my e-penis is longer.
