the Newbies come out of the wood work whenever there is a particularly controversial post made in the forums.

For instance the Jeff Raskin story on the Story Discussion forum brought out several "newbies" who have a single post to their credit and many of which are never heard from again. Do you suppose they are friends of the author or have a vested insterest in THE?

[color:blue]"Outside of the killings, Washington has one of the lowest crime rates in
the country,"
--Mayor Marion Barry, Washington, DC.
Yep, but I've been guilty of that on other forums. As long as the newbie makes an intelligent, well-thought out argument, I don't have a problem with it.

On a related topic, have you ever noticed that when a former Apple employee makes a crack about MacOS X's user interface, that employee is usually working at another company that is developing a new, "revolutionary" UI? It's as if they were using their fame at Apple to self-promote their new product.

Well, I thought that was the point of having the 'discuss' link on the stories on the main page- to draw people in who might not otherwise use the forums...?

[color:red]You slap my back, I'll slap yours!
