November 2001 is when I received my PowerBook G4/667. Since then I've only had 2 problems with it **knocks on wood**. The 1st was the paint chipping issue, and the 2nd started yesterday with the trackpad.

I'm experiencing unexpected mouse behavior; so if I try to move the mouse pointer to a point, it jumps left and right on the way, and sometimes the pointer jumps to a random location on the screen.

Is it time to change the trackpad? Or is there a fix that anybody can suggest?

Thanks

DigitalEye
Edited by walzuhair on 02/17/04 11:58 PM (server time).

this can happen when you have both palms resting on the area around the trackpad. if there is enough pressuer you can make this happen. use a lighter touch

Thanks everybody for your kind feedback..

Squareman & nutty
I just use the weight of my index finger on the trackpad and thumb on the trackpad's button. Single handed usage without pressing the trackpad, just sliding my finger across the trackpad. Remember, it's been working fine since Nov, 2001.

yoyo52
Nope, both my index finger and the trackpad are dry.

Lori
Running Panther with the latest updates.. Try ucontrol.
It may help. It lets you do a whole lot of stuff with your trackpad, like virtual scroll wheels, ctrl clicks.
Check it out

Thanks for the link charlie, but I think my problem is the trackpad's oversensitivity. Over the years, I managed to polish it real nice make the sensors more closer to the surface.

DigitalEye
Perhaps, Waleed, if the issue is that the trackpad's sensors are too close to the surface, you can put something over it. It's cheap enough to pick up one of the Palm/PDA protective screens that you would normally put over a Palm screen to protect it and put it on the track pad to test it out. Maybe that will add enough "buffer" between the track pad and your finger?
