Man fronts court over Sydney car bomb<br><br>A 28-year-old man charged with detonating a 100 kilogram bomb in Sydney yesterday has been denied bail after appearing in court.<br><br>Mark John Avery is accused of detonating the device on a vacant property at Doonside in Sydney's west.<br><br>The car bomb left a four-metre deep crater and wreckage was scattered over a 500 metre area.<br><br>Witnesses say it created a mushroom shaped cloud.<br><br>The Parramatta Bail Court has been told Mr Avery learnt about explosives over the Internet and created the blast for self-gratification.<br>An aerial view of the crater left by an explosion that wrecked a car off Doonside Road. Photo: Grant Turner<br><br>Counter-terrorism police are investigating a car bomb explosion that left a four-metre deep crater.<br><br>Authorities last night said a bomb planted inside an abandoned car is believed to have caused the massive early morning explosion which woke residents in several Sydney suburbs.<br><br>The Australian Federal Police have been informed of the bomb.<br><br>The blast, which was heard more than 20 kilometres away, left a crater three metres wide and almost four metres deep in a vacant paddock owned by Telstra, police said.<br><br>Officers arrived at the scene, near the junction of Doonside and Douglas roads at Doonside, just before 7am to find debris scattered over a 500 metre radius.<br><br>No one was injured by the eruption, Acting Superintendent Wayne Murray said at the scene.<br><br><br><br>Mr Avery was detained without bail as the judge said that" evidence comng to light from searchiing his house leads me to believe that this man is exxtremely dangerous"<br><br>but heck .. if he was so dangerous why did he let his bomb off in an empty 2000 hectare paddock?
