I followed from Apple Discussions Board this advice:

"I think I have a fix for the slow startup. I was talking to Apple this morning, I was having exporting issues out of iPhoto. Long story short, it was a problem with my photo library and had to rebuild it. While I was waiting I asked Matt (the apple guy on the phone) if there was any thing we could do to get 10.3.2 to boot faster.

I noticed that it was much slower when I upgraded to 10.3.2. Matt told me to go into terminal and type:

sudo cp -p /System/Library/Extensions/BootCache.kext/Contents/Resources/BootCacheControl /usr/sbin/

I don't know if that will come through but it's:

sudo<space>cp<space>-p<space>/System/Library/Extensions/BootCache.kext/Contents/Resources/BootCacheControl<space>/usr/sbin/<enter>

It asks you for your admin password.

WARNING: I'm not a mac genius and I have no idea what this does. It copies something to somewhere else. Why this makes a difference, I don't know.

You then reboot, and it still is slow. Then you reboot again and it's real fast. I think it's now faster than it was in 10.3.1.

If someone is more knowledgable about BSD or Unix to know what this is doing, please fill us in. But I'm real happy I did this on my machine.

Just wanted to share what worked for me.

My total boot time in my Pismo 500 is now 55 secs, down from 3 minutes. Aleluya.

Thanks. Gonna try that tonight on my new PB. It takes a while to boot, but it may have more to do with Suitcase and the number of fonts in my startup set. But it's worth a try.

Ah well... some small improvement. About 50 sec from cold boot 'til the dock appears. By the time all the menu items load and iDisc appears, an eyelash over 2 min.

Hey Mactico!
I suppose I had the root user enabled, because your trick worked!

I measured the booting time on my Pismo400 loading all the system and all the haxies.

Before: 3:14
First restart: 3:02
Second and third restart: 1:55

Since I guess the haxies loaded in the same time. The time needed to boot the system was almost cut in half.

I hope you posted this trick on the Apple Discussion Boards, because there are way too many whiners about this issue!

Thanks again!

nutty, how come Apple doesn't give this fix more publicity? Do you think Apple is afraid it would highlight the fact that 10.3.2 wasn't working properly in the first place? If it's the case why can't they release a 10.3.3 with this thing fixed?
