Was reading an article about NFL players being sent hate mail, and one quote stood out that was telling:

"It's scary because you never know what you're opening now," safety Arturo Freeman told the newspaper. "The NFL is saying, 'Be careful.' In any entertainment industry, there is going to be jealousy and hate that people stir up.

Pro sports are no longer team sports....they are an entertainment product marketed to the public just like soap powder and new cars. The only thing missing is the WWE-style pre-determined outcome.

What a shame....
That's why I really don't watch the NBA or NFL anymore. It's all about entertainment rather than the actual sport.

Today's NBA has little to do with the NBA of the Red Auerbach - Wilt Chamberlin - Bill Russell era .. Back then, it mattered if you played hard. It really meant something if you won a championship. It was that way even in to the 90's. Then, too many NBA marketing people, lawyers and promotions people started making basketball decisions and the whole thing changed.

Sad.
