I don't know what T-Mobile offers for $50 month but ATT has a $60 a month plan that gives unlimited text and voice, 2G data, and a much larger network. I'm going to drop my land line.
As far as SIM cards, better Google the limitations. It's kind of complicated switching. The 5's can be used on other networks, with limitations. Verizon uses CDMA, ATT and T-Mobile GSM. Something about the LTE not being compatible though. You will have to get the phone unlocked too to use on both.
