I'm with you on that ... I can't get over how fuzzy security cams are and nanny cams and web cams. If it's recoding to a DVR.. there's no excuse or reason.
I deal with some client's security cams.
It's just like your business. It's not the DVR limitations or image capture limitations, it's the optics of the cameras, and the bandwidth/wiring/wireless needed for higher res cameras to get the data to the DVR in a timely fashion.
Which translates into major $$$ as compared to your Daddy's security cam.
