While I understand that Jerry Sandusky actually committed the crimes that people may associate with coaches and gym teachers, and given the price Penn State paid regarding the "What did they know, and when did you know it?", added to the recent horrendous scandals within the Church itself (wounds deep enough to have possibly influenced the choice of a Pope), AND, although I don't agree with dumping all of this onto someone who, as far as anyone knows, is blameless of any wrong doing, other than not going to confession, I can still understand their decision to err on the side of caution.
I also have a feeling every side in this issue will be using it as a test-case to score political points.
