I knew the redistribution of electoral votes had favored the Republicans, but hadn't crunched the numbers until now. In states that have gone blue in the last 3 Pres elections, there was a total loss of 6 electoral votes. In states that have gone red in the same period, there was a gain of 6 votes (4 in Texas alone)! The only consistently blue state that gained a vote (just one) was Washington. The swing states that have lost or gained votes in this election is a mixed bag, hard to figure.
Without considering the swing states, that is a 12 point gap to overcome. Man. Curse liberals and their notoriously small families!
Below are the figures, unskillfully cut from a table I found elsewhere:
States won by Democrats in 2000, 2004, and 2008
Illinois −1 Massachusetts −1 Michigan −1 New Jersey −1 New York −2 Pennsylvania −1 Washington +1
Florida (Democratic in 2008, Republican in 2000 and 2004) +2 Iowa (Democratic in 2000 and 2008, Republican in 2004) −1 Nevada (Democratic in 2008, Republican in 2000 and 2004) +1 Ohio (Democratic in 2008, Republican in 2000 and 2004) −2
