I have a 5th generation video Ipod with a front panel covered in scratches. I could order a replacement from ifixit.com for about $20 but I want to create a unique look. I have taken my ipod apart a couple times now and know that there is a clear layer over the black base piece that is attached to the metal frame. Can I remove this clear layer at all? I heard from someone that it was glued on there and I was wondering if a heat gun could loosen the glue? Once removed I would get another acrylic sheet and glue it over the black part, after some paint. Also, can the back of the ipod be anodized or just electroplated?
